For 2.6.24-19-generic you can use from
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/11c11040/  the
precompiled drivers in agrsm-ubuntu8.04.1-2.6.24-19-generic.tar.gz.

Unpack under Linux with
$ tar zxf agrsm*.tar.gz
and follow directions therein.

My guidance in http://www.nabble.com/LSI-AgereSystems-11c11040-chipset-support-installation-,using-dkms-tools-td21111462.html
may be harder for a Newbie to follow, and has not been checked for your
 2.6.24-19-generic  kernel installation.
