Hi,

the installer "cnxtinstall.run" requires an active Internet connection in order to be able to use all its features. As you have mentioned, having an Internet connection when you want to install a driver that will give you an Internet connection can be an chicken/egg problem. In this case, you can simply use the installer to get critical information about your system, like for example the kernel version and with this information, manually download the right driver from our web site using another machine or operating system.

Alternatively, for new Linux users, it might be less trouble to get a temporary net connection via Ethernet or wireless just to use the installer instead of understanding how to locate, download and install the right package.

It is a file not URL I think, as 127.0.0.1 always refer to your own PC.
On my Ubuntu system, there is in
/etc/hosts
127.0.0.1	localhost

Thomas,

Excuse me but I am not intelligent enough to understand what you mean by: "I
downloaded the installer".
Which installer is this "THE", you did not say, and I cannot guess.

Is it the file "hsfmodem-7.68.00.12x86_64full.tar.gz" which Marv told you to
download, or the Linuxant crap named "cnxtinstall.run" ?

Installing hsfmodem-7.68.00.12x86_64full.tar.gz does not require any
browser, it just requires to read the instructions for installation using
method C in the "Installation" page linked from the HSF menu on the left
side of page http://www.linuxant.com/drivers.

cnxtinstall.run does use a browser but Marv did not tell you to use it, and
I name that "installer" crap because it makes things more complicated than
the straight method and because it requires that you already have a working
connection (LAN, ADSL, other modem) because it downloads material from the
Linuxant site, which is of course not possible when you just have a modem
still not working (the hen and the eggs, you know...)

I have asked Linuxant several times to remove it. No effect.

Dear Mr. Stodolsky:

Thanks for you help, I am almost there, but not quite.
I got the license, downloaded the installer, installed the software,
everything going well. Next step is go to Web Configurator at
http://127.0.0.1:18020/
but I can't get there. It asks the username and password again, just like
it did at the previous step, but the same password doesn't work. Nothing
works, at least not in four complete re-installations with every variation
in detail I could think of.

Please, how do I get this web configurator page? How do I complete the
installation?

Tom,

For support under your x86_64 System
from http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads.php
 get the
hsfmodem-7.68.00.12x86_64full.tar.gz
unpack under Linux with:
$ tar zxf hsf*.tar.gz
and follow the instructions in the new
hsfmodem-7.68.00.12x86_64full folder

You could also install a 32 bit linux-image package,
matching
KernelVersion with one of the packages on
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads-ubuntu-x86.php,
which have precompiled drivers.

below are more typical Bioler Plate instructions. The most
expert help
for Linuxant software is through "Support
(Jonathan)"
<support@xxxxxxxxxxxx>.  But first
run the
$ sudo hsfconfig --diagnose
and send him the output written to the /tmp/ folder

 download
hsfmodem-7.68.00.12full_k2.6.24_16_generic_ubuntu_i386.deb.zip
 Under Linux unpack with:
 $ unzip hsfmodem*.zip
 Then install with:
 $ sudo dpkg -i hsfmodem*.deb
 Subsequently, the modem should be found with
 $ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
 Edit in your personal information with:
 $ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf
 and try dialing out with:
 $ sudo wvdial.
