Problem is the same whatever the dialer I use.

Here is the result of scanmodem (and wvdial.conf).

I tried to use scanmodem twice: once when the modem works, once when it
doesn't; the difference is the order of dependency of snd modules:

when it doesn't work:

< snd_ac97_codec 93413 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_intel8x0m
< snd_pcm 70981 6
snd_intel8x0,snd_intel8x0m,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
< snd 48325 21
snd_intel8x0,snd_seq_dummy,snd_intel8x0m,snd_ac97_codec,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
< snd_page_alloc 11593 3 snd_intel8x0,snd_intel8x0m,snd_pcm

when it works:

> snd_ac97_codec 93413 2 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0
> snd_pcm 70981 6
snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
> snd 48325 21
snd_intel8x0m,snd_seq_dummy,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
> snd_page_alloc 11593 3 snd_intel8x0m,snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm

You can see that when it works, the snd_intel8x0m module is the first
one in the dependencies listed, while when it doesn't work, it is the
snd_intel8x0 module.

I don't now if it is the main problem, and I don't know how to force the
priority of module dependencies....

I recall that my problem is not: my modem is not working, but sometimes
it works (well) sometimes it doesn't and, in that case, the modem
doesn't send anything on the phone line.

Thanks for helping.
