All other COMM channels must be shut down before you dialout, or DNSservices will be blocked. Do:$ ifconfiglo        Link encap:Local Loopback          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1          RX packets:1790 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0          TX packets:1790 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0          RX bytes:89500 (87.4 KB)  TX bytes:89500 (87.4 KB)
eth0     Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:0f:66:f2:b1:8e          inet addr:192.168.1.3  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0          inet6 addr: fe80::20f:66ff:fef2:b18e/64 Scope:Link          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1          RX packets:4879 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0          TX packets:3041 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000          RX bytes:4363608 (4.1 MB)  TX bytes:639667 (624.6 KB)
lo (loopback) is OK . But any eth of wireless must be closed withcommand like:
$ sudo ifconfig eth0 downof PPP will later try to use the eth0 DNSCheck with$ ifconfig
WHen only lo is left. Dialout & browse.
For dialout started with$ sudo wvdialClose wvdial with$ Ctrl-C
