On my system with several kernels installed including 2.6.24.17 and 18 $ find /lib/modules -name snd-hda-intel.ko /lib/modules/2.6.21.0-22/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko ------------- Thus some of the default installations are NOT including the snd-hda-intel ESSENTIAL for sound and modem service through snd-hda-intel. Do not yet know the reason.
