I established it with the idea of provoking manufacturers into releasing programming information for their modem chipsets. Unfortunately, that was not to be, as the FCC is not enthusiastic about approving softmodems when the manufacturer allows people to create unapproved modems. Consequently *I* lost interest in maintaining the website, but in the meantime a community grew up around the mailing list.
