Sorry for not responding earlier,  If you cannot run scanModem on
Puppy or DSL, run it from Ubuntu, then tell us what kernel you are
running under DSL and we will have to see if packages exist for that
modem and for DSL.  It is difficult to find out.

I do not know if Puppy or DSL have a root password, but you can try
the following

$ gunzip scanModem.gz
$ chmod +x scanModem
$ sudo ./scanModem

and see if it runs, then send the ModemData.txt and we can find out if
there are solutions for your case.
