Hi Jacques,

linuxant hsfmodem for my kernel works. I can get on
internet by dialup now, using gnome-ppp.

(In Ubuntu7.10)first time I used 'networking'->'manual
configure' to dialup. I can hear the dialing and the
connecting sound, after which by ifconfig I can see a
ppp0 is set up: (following ip add isn't real, I
changed it.)
---------------------------------------------
ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
          inet addr:111.11.11.11 P-t-P:11.111.11.11
Mask:255.255.255.255

          RX packets:1953 errors:1 dropped:0
overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:5 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
          RX bytes:97862 (95.5 KB) TX bytes:97 (97.0
b)
---------------------------------------------
but I cant open any website by firefox or opera.
'ping' can reach 'P-t-P:11.111.11.11' though. I
suspect it didnt receive dns server address, i.e
something like dhcp does not complete in the dialup
process.

the second time I used gnome-ppp to do the dialup.
here is the log file for the dialup:

the dialup process didnt complete,(there're some
errors in the log file) the dialing dialog hang on the
screen saying "connecting". but I can see the ppp0 set
up by ifconfig and I can open website by any browser,
I'm connected.

I can dialup now, but I still have some questions:
1. what's the meaning of errors ing gnome-ppp log
file? can it do better, i.e to "complete" the dialup
process?
2. the linuxant hsfmodem works, does this mean the
slmodem (ALSA mode) drivers won't work for my modem?
with a free version of linuxant the connection is only
around 14k, it's slow, so I really hoped slmodem to
work on my modem instead.

Thanks.

Feng :)
