Daniel,

In the [Dialer Default]  you could use
[Dialer Defaults]
Phone =  x
Username = y
Password = z

They will be auto replaced by the corresponding lines in the following
sections, when they are called

An alternative is to use a Spec in following sections:
Inherit Defualts
but I'm not familiar enough with its usage.
Likely it is in the wvdial documentation.

With one of my Systems
Carrier Check = no
is clearly effective, in that the dialout proceeds,
even though there is still generated a
"Waiting for carrier message"

This should be considered a wvdial bug, which I will report
