is your Audio card.  It has enough hardware to be responsive in thewvdialconf test.  But cannot of course further deal with pppdcommunications environment.
Perhaps install the -686 kernel as contrasted to the -generic kernel variant.and rerun scanModem there under, to assess if the Agere modem is enabled.
