Folks Would someone using Ubuntu and compiling proficient fix my package per issue below. > > From .http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/ > > get the slamr-2.6.22-14-generic.tar.gz with compiled drivers. Ferat Apologies, I forgot to add the ungrab-winmodem into the slamr package and am traveling for 10 days more without Linux tools >From http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/ get the package ungrab-winmodem_20070426.tar.gz Under Linux do $ tar zxf ungrab*.tar.gz to unpack it $ ls Will show the unpacked folder. Move in $ cd ungrab-winmodem_20070426 $ ls $ make clean $ make will compile the driver, Install with $ sudo make install This will compensate. Just again in the slamr folder, run the $ sudo ./setup There will still be warning messages. But all needed will be properly installed After the install, an edit will be needed in file /etc/default/sl-modem-daemon (or similar name) $ sudo gedit /etc/default/sl-modem-daemon Just change the country setting to RUSSIA, from USA During the setup, there should have been generated a file /etc/wvdial.conf , also needing an edit $ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf Remove the ; < > symbols and put in your dialout information. There should already be a last line: Carrier Check = no but add it if necessary. Save Do $ sudo cp /etc/wvdial.conf /etc/wvdial.conf .backup because if the setup is run again, it will overwrite /etc/wvdial.conf But a 2nd usage of ./setup should not be done Reboot and the modem should be ready to use, with $ sudo wvdial MarvS On Dec 9, 2007 12:15 PM, Marvin Stodolsky <marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Problem under stood. > Wait a while. > Am traveling now and too tired to instrucut. > > MarvS > > > On Dec 8, 2007 10:41 AM, Ferat D <ferat_d@xxxxxxx> wrote: > > Hello! > > > > Following your instructions, after typing "sudo ./setup" I got such result: > > > > ferat@ferat-desktop:~/slamr-2.6.22-14-generic$ sudo ./setup > > [sudo] password for ferat: > > driver=slamr > > When asked about your country, Enter: > > USA > > > > Installing the Debian packages supporting autoloading > > Selecting previously deselected package sl-modem-daemon. > > (Reading database ... 88932 files and directories currently installed.) > > Unpacking sl-modem-daemon (from sl-modem-daemon_2.9.10+2.9.9d+e-pre2-5build1_i386.deb) ... > > Setting up sl-modem-daemon (2.9.10+2.9.9d+e-pre2-5build1) ... > > FATAL: Module ungrab_winmodem not found. > > FATAL: Module slamr not found. > > Starting SmartLink Modem driver for: auto. > > Creating /dev/modem symlink, pointing to: /dev/ttySL0. > > > > > > Copying over newer files > > cp: cannot stat `sl-modem-daemon.modutils': No such file or directory > > Making folder /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/extra > > Copying drivers to /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/extra > > Checking driver install > > slamr.ko slusb.ko > > Finished installs. > > Informing the System > > > > Starting function tests, loading drivers: > > FATAL: Module ungrab_winmodem not found. > > FATAL: Module ungrab_winmodem not found. > > Running diagnostic: > > > > [ 325.646983] slamr: module license 'Smart Link Ltd.' taints kernel. > > [ 325.654628] slamr: SmartLink AMRMO modem. > > [ 325.654860] slamr: device 10b9:5459 is grabbed by another driver > > > > ports should be created by: > > slmodemd -c USA /dev/slamr0 > > error: mdm setup: cannot open dev `/dev/slamr0': No such device > > error: cannot setup device `/dev/slamr0' > > Checking for success > > Port creation with slmodemd failed. > > Read the Slamr.txt record, other 1st_Read.txt CountryList.txt Smartlink.txt wvdial.txt files and the sample wvdial.conf. > > > > > > I am a newbie to linux and unfortunately it's hard to understand what to do. > > > > As far as I understood there should be something like "ungrab_winmodem" in this folder, bot there is no. > > > > Should I also install something additional? > > > > In ModemData.txt I've noticed reference to ungrab-winmodem-20070505.tar.gz and slmodem-2.9.11-20070813.tar.gz, are they neccessary in my case? > > > > Thank you. > > > > Ferat > > > > > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > > > > > > Antonio, > > > > Please track this one.
