Roberto Either a USB modem or the USB to serial route should be OK.. For a USB modem, there should be a specification of Linux support. slmodemd is not the problem. Rather it is a fix to the ALSA snd-hda-intel driver which is needed to achieve support for the 0x11c11040 chipset. Sadly LSI/Agere had not yet provided Linux support for this chipset, while there is support for most of their other types.
