Have been trying to see if a PCMCIA fax modem card would work under linux.
Initially the pcmcia card showed up as alloted to /dev/ttyS0 but now for
some (unknown to me) reason it no longer shows up as being mounted !
anywhere.
Its a Motorola Montana 33.6 Modem / Fax
*This was when something seemed to work**

Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Am also attaching modemdata.txt - but this again does not show the
pcmcia card Modem. There is another winmodem possibly working with the
hfs conexant driver but that is a separate issue.
Any suggestions / help

Lacking a dsp (digital signal processing) chip, the modem is a software
intensive or "softmodem" type. Its primary controller manages the traffic

14,400 until a key is purchased. There is NO freeware alternative.
There are two support package types: hsfmodem and hcflinmodem.
http://www.lorenzobettini.it/linux/LinuxSonyVaioVGN-S5VP_B reports a
problem and solution in stalling a key, after testing of the free low
speed download.
The hsfmodem package serves a great variety of Conexant chipset modems.
