If this modem is connected through a serial cable as contrasted
through a USB cable,  if should be supported by resident serial
drivers.

Try to detect it with:
$ sudo wvdialconf  /etc/wvdial.conf

If found, replace the <xxx> with your dialout info with:
$ sudo gedit   /etc/wvdial.conf
