Andrew,

  The files that you need are the following:

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/slmodem-2.9.11-20070505.tar.gz
and
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/ungrab-winmodem-20070505.tar.gz

unpack them with tar -zxvf
$ tar -zxvf slmodem-2.9.11-20070505.tar.gz
$ tar -zxvf ungrab-winmodem-20070505.tar.gz
$ cd slmodem-2.9.11-20070505
$ make clean
$ make KERNEL_DIR=/lib/modules/2.6.21-1.3194.tc7/build <--- kernel-devel-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 needs to be installed for this step to work
$ make
$ su
password
# make install
# cd ../ungrab-winmodem-20070505
# make clean
# make
# make install
# exit
$ su -
password
# modprobe ungrab-winmodem
# modprobe slamr
# slmodemd -c USA /dev/slamr0

Please open up another terminal and run su -
# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

should find /dev/ttySL0. with any editor please edit /etc/wvdial.conf putting in your username and password and phone number to dialout.

Sample wvdial.conf file here:

[olivares@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/wvdial.conf

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttySL0
Baud = 460800
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 X3 &C1 &D2  +MS=90
ISDN = 0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Phone = 1234567 <---- number that you dial to connect here
Username = your_username <---- your username that you use to connect to your ISP
Password = your_password <----- password
Stupid Mode = 1 <--- might/might not be needed you may add a "#" before ths line
Carrier Check = No <--- This is needed for smartlink modems
AutoDNS = yes
[olivares@localhost ~]$

If you get stuck somewhere, please visit
http://www20.brinkster.com/olivares/slmodemd-setup-1.html

Hope that you do not run into selinux troubles, if you do please report back. Fedora 7 without updates has some problems with selinux.

Regards,

Antonio

Subject: Andrew, USA Fedora release 7 (Moonshine) Kernel kernel 2.6.21-1.3194.fc7

Hi,

I ran the scanModem utility found on your site, and was able to identify
my modem. Unfortunately, I hit information overload while reading the
files generated by it, and am unsure where to go from here. Any help
would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew
