I am using Xubuntu 6.10

With my hardware I am able to connect to the internet
with MS-Window. My line sometimes has some noise. But
windows can connect at the first trial at about 26000
bps and it is not disconnected until I want to.
With wvdial the connection FRECUENTLY FAILS. About 40%
of the trials it is able CONNECTS but it is
disconnected after some seconds.
In the last 10 hrs and several tens of trials I could
connect to wikipedia only two times.
While the slmodemd and the connection are runing my
machine had got complete freeze when:
1) I opened a new terminal in the Xfce menu (once)
2) I opened a new tab in the firefox 2.0 (several
times)
When connection is sucessfully, it takes several
seconds (about 15 or more) to give some response in
the firefox... before this time the connection do not
exists.

I had expended hundreds of hours trying to make the
modem works. Before Xubuntu I had mandrake 10. Now the
modem had been recognized with slmodem but now I
continue connecting from windows... :-(
