Hello Robert, the Problem could be, that your modem is set up as been started on boot. To prevent this, start YAST, enter modem configuration, select "Modify" and on the page "Modemparameters" click "Details". On this page you find a checkbox "User controlled". If this is not enabled, enable it and click "Ok", then "Continue" three times, until you reach the page "Connection parameters". Check if, "Dial on Demand" checkbox is enabled. It should not be checked. If so, each access to the /dev/ttySL0 will trigger a dialout. And in SuSSE, every time after boot, an attempt to connect to the update server is made, which will trigger the dial out. Finish the modem configuration. Now slmodemd should have been restarted. Regards, Joern
