Hi,
Attached is my output from scanModem.
I am a Linux newbie but I did run Mandrake 10.1 on my old Dell, also had
winmodem issues but at the time I was travelling in southern Europe and used
my mobile as a modem just for emails, 10.1 with KDE had no problem using
bluetooth to access my Nokia and use it as a modem. Sadly a close encounter
with a Bacardi and Coke was the final insult to my ageing Dell !!
In the meantime, whilst adding to Mr. Gates user base (Win XP), I have at
least migrated to OpenOffice for day to day work and my hobby related
applications (ham radio) seem well supported on Ubuntu so once the modem
issue is resolved I can finally close all Windows and reboot !!
I haven't tried this bluetooth option with Ubuntu on my IBM T40 but it's not
really an answer given mobile phone costs in Ireland.
I have looked at the IBM links for Linux drivers but these seem to lead to a
dead end.
I did a little programming years ago using q-basic on my first real PC, an
Amstrad with CPM/plus as the OS but this is so long ago so "paint by
numbers" type of advice would be ideal.
Finally I live in a non-broadband rural area so dial up is a must, if the
T40's modem is a lost cause are there any decent USB modems out there with
no Linux isses ?
Thanks for your help,
Craig
