Jim,
What Firas writes is unfortunately true but still, hoping that you also have Windows on the same machine, could you please use Hyperterminal to get the modem's response to command ATI8 (that is ATi8 , not number 18)?

If you are not familiar with Hyperterminal, you will find help here:
http://www.eicon.com/support/helpweb/divaclient/dc28.htm
You try ATI8 right after trying AT and getting OK in section 4 of this guide.

Sorry to bring bad news but :

For candidate modem in PCI bus: 02:08.0
  Class 0703: 14e4:4212 Modem: Broadcom Corporation BCM4212 v.90 56k modem
     Primary PCI_id 14e4:4212
Support type needed or chipset: Broadcom
Under Linux 2.6.n kernels, the chipset is NOT SUPPORTED . Read InfoGeneral.txt about alternatives.

Hello,

I would appreciate any help you could offer in obtaining drivers for my BCM
V92 .... I believe I have BCM4212 chipset as I've downloaded and run
scanModem and that's about as far as I'm comfortable with doing. Attached
is ModemData.txt ..... I sure would appreciate pointers to get the rest of
the process underway .... My OS is Ubuntu 7.04

Thanks Jim
