This is a problem that has been encountered in Slackware 11. It
appeared to be a problem with Bash but is still being looked into.
Although the scanModem script could be re-coded around it...
substituting constructs like
`ls -l`
by
$(ls -l)
it doesn't appear to be a fault with scanModem.
I'll report back further if I come up with a substantive
explanation of what's really going on.
Are you asserting that _only some_ Fedora Core 5 installations
don't show this behaviour?
