We are going to try and help you with your winmodem. If you are interested in 
hardware modems, most hardware modems will work with Linux. As for where to 
get one. Just plug in 'hardware modem' in to google. Pricegrabber usually 
does a good job. Or you could go to ebay. For about $20 you can get the modem 
delivered to your door (if you are in the US).  As for which one to get, any 
serial modem is fine, stay away from USB modems. As for how to setup the 
modem with your particular distro, you are on your own, as I have not much 
distro experience. Usually the forum for your particular distro will help you 
out. With Mandriva I think you should be able to use KPPP, as I use KPPP in 
PCLinuxOS, which is based off mandriva.
