The NFS selection for the Host is purely for convenience. Assuming that you are on FastModels, your other options are either an initrd (supplied via the semihosting features or embedded in the bootwrapper itself) or an MMC image. The same applies for the guest, with the difference being that MMC and NFS booting are far too slow compared to initrd due to the emulation overhead.
