So, do so at your own risk. Other than that, you can open an editor that isn't KDE in TWM (if you execute "startx" from a virtual terminal, that is what you get as default unless your distro has changed it). If I have gEdit working, I sometimes use that in TWM. If you have a full X installation, there is also Xedit although it is a little harder to use that gEdit.
