You seem to be logged on as the super-user root. This is a very bad idea and 
you have by now probably really screwed up your entire system so much that it 
needs expert help to get it back, or a complete reinstallation. In the latter 
case, you should first read some beginners instructions about using "users".

If this isn't the reason, please disregard the above.
