Thanks for the suggestions. I did indeed have to set virtdomains and set the defaultdomain. Connecting with Thunderbird was an excellent suggestion. I am now able to connect to the caldav server and create events from Thunderbird.
I am curious about how to create a calendar that is not owned by an individual user. Maybe create a calendar-user and share the calendar-user's calendar?
