Re: Which BSD? (Re: updating from 2.4(!) to modern cyrus, some tech questions)

Hi!

Running FreeBSD here for our mail servers running Cyrus!. Cyrus rocks!!.

I suppose it's code has been perhaps, in some manner "more" written for glibc (gnu fork of libc normally used by Linux distros) than libc, because for instance they never call strlcpy and always do strncpy (for instance). But anyway, I could assure it works just fine under FreeBSD :) :)

Cheers!

Definitely. Unless your hardware is not supported by FreeBSD, this is the BSD to use... In particular, there are ports of several different Cyrus-versions, including mail/cyrus-imapd34. (The ports system is what pkgsrc derives from, by the way.)
I saw, yes, thank you.  The hardware is Virtualbox.  It should be just fine.

Or should I just bit the bullet and use CentOS or some other stable-ish Linux version?

Yikes!
Stable, Linux .. yeah ... heh!
