Another possibility: perhaps Perdition or some other IMAP proxy can help? I don't use it yet, but it has some nice options, e.g. it can present accounts on different servers on one frontend. So perhaps it has some features that can help you.
We are (going to in fact) using perdition in front of our old imap servers. We also have perdition in front of our cyrus imap servers. Every user can connect to each cyrus imap server and will be directed to there corresponding cyrus imap server (we are using on each machine serveral ip addresses). And each user can login with their email address or with their unix login.
