The community of users.

I disagree.    We're in a transition period for which neither universal IPv4 nor universal IPv6 connectivity can be assumed. Any service that isn't usable from both IPv4 and IPv6 is therefore inaccessible to some people.

Also, that argument ignores the concerns of many users who have abandoned github for valid reasons.   Why are those users' concerns irrelevant?

IETF really needs to transition away from github even if they started supporting IPv6 tomorrow.
