It worked when/because of/thanks to good synchronisation on who did what work and who had the lead etc. And the work was done when we where in a different time...
If you need something more time-local, WebRTC/RTCWEB was likewise a
joint W3C/IETF effort. As in your description, though, it seems that a
good understanding of scoping and responsibilities between the groups
was a key to success.
