On my last day of the IETF I visited the Museum of Science and Industry after the IETF sessions were done and before my flight from Chicago Midway airport. The journey from the museum to Chicago Midway went through the area described, which was evidenced by about 2 or 3km where every single home and business had all windows covered in plywood. Uncomfortable, but fortunately not fatal.
