Last Calls are announced on the ietf-announce@xxxxxxxx list,
which is a read-only list with relatively low volume.

The reason for that is to avoid exactly the problem you describe.
If you're not subscribed to ietf-announce, you won't see *any*
Last Calls, or other important announcements.
