I would be okay replacing most of the plenary along these lines. And I really like the idea of moving the ANRP prize talks into the evening as a plenary activity.
I'm really not excited about having the ANRP talks use up time that we would otherwise use for IETF business. We are already tight enough on time as it is, and while I'm sure some people want to watch those talks, it's a fundamentally noninteractive activity and so shouldn't crowd out the primary purpose for which we meet.
I do agree that it would be better to do less status reporting and it wouldn't be unreasonable to replace some of that with something like alldispatch.
Contra some of the opinions I've seen expressed, I think that having dispatch-type groups is very good. It's certainly true that *sometimes* work has on obvious WG destination, but that's often not true and in many cases the right thing to happen is nothing. Dispatch-type groups are an efficient way of triaging new work. I'm mildly in favor of alldispatch rather than individual dispatch groups for the venue shopping and cross-area review reasons others have indicated.
There are four aspects I would not want to see lost:
- The IETF chair, and as necessary, other leaders such as the IED or NOMCOM chair, may have urgent or important business that needs raising with the community;
- We should honor those who have served the community. We need to do more of this
I'm not sure that this is generically true, but I'd have to see a specific proposal to have an opinion.

- We should honor our host

- The community needs a window to provide feedback and to put faces to names of people who hold leadership roles. This is especially important when one considers that people have flown thousands of kms/miles to attend these functions.
But I think all of the above can continue and we could still save a lot of time. Just call "ALLDISPATCH" the plenary ;-)

replace the IETF plenary with this, and you'd have zero impact on the agenda time. Not that I dislike the people who speak in plenary, but if the formalism is "these are statutory reports which need to be made to the community" we can do that in a brown bag lunch. I stress, I bear no animosity to any of the people obligated to make statutory reports. And I think statutory reports should be made. -G _______________________________________________ 121attendees mailing list -- 121attendees@xxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send an email to 121attendees-leave@xxxxxxxx
