This is not hard to solve.  Many organizations provide e-mail
forwarding.  For example, MIT Alumni can get an "e-mail life"
forwarding (e.g., tytso@xxxxxxxxxxxx), which I can redirect as needed.
The Linux Foundation has two such services, one for any Linux
Foundation member, and one dedicated for Linux kernel developers
hosted at kernel.org.

I'm actually a bit surprised that the IETF hasn't stood up a similar
service for I-D and RFC authors.  This would solve the problem of
making sure that document authors can be contacted, even after they
leave an employer, or after their employer no longer exists (e.g.,
dec.com, sun.com, etc.)
