Doesn't configuring browser behavior by making fundamental changes to the
nature of the .com and .net zones strike you as overkill?

In my browser, I can go into the configuration menu and specify whatever
behavior I want for handling of unknown hosts (or at least I could, until
Verisign broke that behavior). This seems to me to be a more natural way
of configuring the behavior of my software than imposing on the entire
rest of the world a configuration that's slightly more convenient for me.

Besides, I want unknown hosts to go to Google instead. How do I get
Verisign to do that?
