Please find out whether the kernel is using OSI(Linux) or not.  It should
log something to /var/log/dmesg (or to /var/log/kernel.log) during boot.

This is the kind of thing that I can't help much without a T400s.  Lenovo
tried to second-guess us, and now I have no idea what their firmware is
doing.
