fan speed values

I'm using kernel 2.6.14.18 w/ IBM ThinkPad ACPI and I'm wondering how to
interpret the values of /proc/acpi/ibm/fan.

With this command :

n22 ~ # alias temp
alias
temp='cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM0/temperature /proc/acpi/ibm/thermal /proc/acpi/ibm/fan'

I got:

n22 ~ # temp
temperature: 45 C
temperatures: 45 40 29 47 32 -128 28 -128
status: enabled
speed: 3052
level: auto

and :

n22 ~ # temp
temperature: 45 C
temperatures: 45 40 29 46 32 -128 28 -128
status: enabled
speed: 2984
level: auto

I know that for a temperature of ~42° the fan speed is 0 therefore I'd like to
ask what's the measurement unit for the values of the fan speed (2984 and
3052 respectively).
