The ThinkPad SL500 has the same firmware as the IdeaPad, and therefore it has absolutely no "special" support from Linux ThinkPad drivers. You don't get thinkpad-acpi. You don't get HDAPS. You don't get tp-smapi. The Linux drivers will detect that there is no ThinkPad ACPI or ThinkPad EC support in any Thinkpad SL-series with IdeaPad firmware, and will refuse to load.
