Sorry for accusing the wrong software again (it was xorg one hour ago) :-) It turned out that it is gnome-screensaver (at least for now). It is set to 1m but i have it disabled in the GUI dialog so i assumed it would not "run". There is a gnome-screensaver process running though and killing it fixes the problem. Now i just have to figure out why gnome-power-manager is not turning off the screen anymore, time to hop to the next mailing-list i guess.
