Regarding the packaging I have no preferences. If there is any way to move the fix to a location that is not subject to updates of the distribution I'm fine. But I'm no expert to udev, I have just been digging into this problem as fas as necessary. If you can tell me where I could locate the fix I would also post this to the GPSBABEL-Team to publish the fix on their website.
