Yes, I found that already this morning. I will read it more carefully
when I have some spare time.

This morning I was looking for the exact meaning of single ampersand as
in

tooltip {
  &.background {

In that page only double ampersand is mentioned unfortunately.

Because that comes from a .scss file, which is processed with SASS to generate CSS.

SASS is a superset syntax of CSS that is commonly used in web development for complex style sheets:

And I have to admit that I have not bookmarked that page already --
"Copyright © 2005‒2014 The GNOME Project" made me wonder if that info
is valid at all for GTK >= 3.20.

The documentation is generated from the Git repository; the copyright attribution is inconsequential as to whether it's up to date.
