I've been GtkGLExt in an application of mine and it seems to work well. If you have to port your program to Win32 you'll likely have some issues, but other than that it does what it needs to. That being said, it would be really nice to have a generic library to help with some of the more common complexities of OpenGL. For instance, texture loading, depth sorting, tessellation, sharers, etc. It wouldn't need to implement a scene graph, and probably wouldn't even need to be GObject based. Just something for OpenGL like what glib is for libc.
