Hi Andy,

how calls are routed by GnuGk is handled by the routing policies you
configure. See 
http://www.gnugk.org/gnugk-manual-6.html#ss6.1

You config doesn't explicitly set them so you have the
default configuration

[RoutingPolicy]
default=explicit,internal,parent,neighbor

Usually the explicit policy is enough to route calls by IP. You should
check a level 5 trace of you call if the destination IP is really sent
to GnuGk in the destCallSignalAddress. If is not and it is only
available inside the alias eg "123@xxxxxxx", you might need to add the
dns or srv policy to your routing policy chain.
