gcj. jam and cacao don't support hppa and I didn't much luck at all with
sable and kaffe (ie, it wouldn't even start).

That seems to be my experience too :)

I'm willing to help in this regard (as much as I can): I have a vested
interest ;)

Cool. Well, I'll do what I can to help. I've had limited experience
(read: next to nothing ;) ) developing a J2ME jvm, but am keen to help
on the "desktop" side.
