using glusterfs to sync files across two data centers

Hi, I am new to glusterfs and would like to know if glusterfs is suitable to
achieve the possibility of syncing two data storage servers in two data
centers. Most of the data will be small files (<1MB).
I have been playing around with AFR, and can get v1.3.12 to work with two
storage servers with server-side AFR, and two clients, each connecting to
the nearest storage server.

What I have found out is that in local servers on the same network, this
setup works okay, with fast enough speed. However, when using servers from
two data centers with certain latency, the read speed is almost unbearable
(5kB/s?).

Any suggestions or insights on this issue? Thanks.
