No progress - But I've been talking to Americo over the last 2-3 weeks to start some movement on that direction. I had some work done in 2018, but it was a Python 2 plug-in with requirements for a server-side API - maybe I will revisit some of that I did not even know about this extension format in the ChangeLog you pointed. It certainly will be useful.
