Just following up on this. Had a quick conversation about this on irc with mitch. apLundell reported the same problem. We both ran a trace in instruments and came up with these: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ndnxmp15zngf280/Instruments2.trace.zip http://andylundell.com/temp/Gimp2.8.6_Problem_ChangingLayerVisibility.trace.zip In both cases the plateau in the timeline is the toggling of visibility on a layer (in my case, it's just a single layer visibility being toggled). This happens in both Partha and Simone's builds... OSX 10.7.5 (and 10.7.4 in my case).
