Thank you, I understand better. "What is visible" is really a flattenned stack of the visible layers (with an eye in the Layer dialog). New From Visible works the same as Merge Visible Layers, excepted that it creates a new layer, not always at top of the layer stack, but, in some cases, just above the selected layer. The question is the interest of this command. Alexia, please, could you detail your example? I don't see well how you "erase the parts you want your original work to show". Please, could you send me some image examples.
