All this searching of linking and such is silly; this is a well-known bug in the pixmap-engine theme system, which is a dynamically loaded object that won't show up in "ldd". Look for old copies of libpixmap.so. This bug is very old; see http://www.mail-archive.com/gimp-developer%40scam.xcf.berkeley.edu/msg01619.html and http://www.mail-archive.com/gimp-developer%40scam.xcf.berkeley.edu/msg02239.html and http://www.mail-archive.com/gimp-developer%40scam.xcf.berkeley.edu/msg01430.html. You don't see the bug with the themes you mentioned because they don't use the pixmap-engine system.
