Gimp 1.1.9 compiles, but does not run

Hello:

On the following platform:

 Sparc IPX, Solaris 2.6
 Perl 5.005_3
 Glib 1.2.4
 Gtk+ 1.2.4
 gcc 2.8.1
 ld 2.9.1 (binutils 2.9.1)

Gimp (1.1.9), installed with exec_prefix = /usr/local, croaks on
startup (after processing plug-ins/zealouscrop, about to process the
extensions) with an error complaining that the symbol
gimp_color_selector_register is referenced in libcolorsel_gtk.so, but
not defined. (I have lost the exact text, but will regenerate it by
morning after I recompile.) No core file is generated, or at least I
can't find one anywhere.

> echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib:/opt/lib

The compile went successfully, with only warnings about assumed data
types, and a problem with PDL. The install of gtk and glib were
similarly uneventful. The version of Gimp is from the anon CVS
server, updated this morning.

This message was also issued before the Gimp failed:

gimp: shmat failed...disabling shared memory tile transport

It doesn't seem relevant to the larger problem, but I wonder
about it anyway.

Can anyone suggest a fix? A rejiggering of the link order or flags,
maybe?

Many thanks,

-tom
