This is actually an error from the assembler (note: "Assembler messages"). The assembler is actually not part of gcc. You are using the gas assembler which is part of the GNU binutils. See http://sourceware.org/binutils/ for more information including how to report a bug. Make sure you report which version of the assembler you are using.
